There, she would “rip and read” the Associated Press wire for her morning broadcasts, then hit the road to report on everything from barn fires to high school basketball. Ms. Bernstein’s first “big break” in TV came just 30 miles away, in Salisbury, MD (market #162 at the time!), where she wrote, edited, produced and anchored the weekend news. When Reno, Nevada, came calling, Ms. Bernstein trekked cross-country to the “Biggest Little City,” eventually becoming the market’s first weekday female sports anchor.
